The full read on the Chiefs

Written Sun Nov 1, before the Broncos game.

Season so far

Kansas City is 5-1, with a 3-0 home record and a 2-1 road record. The Chiefs have won five of their six games, including a 31-10 home win over Denver and a 22-6 home win over the Chargers. Their latest result was a 3-20 road loss to Seattle.

The read

Kansas City enters the Denver game at 5-1, with a 3-0 home record and a 2-1 road record. The Chiefs opened with a 31-10 home win over Denver and followed it with wins over Indianapolis, Miami and Las Vegas. They beat the Chargers 22-6 before losing 3-20 in Seattle. That defeat was their first of the season.

The Seattle game exposed a stalled offense. Kansas City had 213 total yards, including 50 rushing yards, and Mahomes threw for 165 yards with an interception. The Chiefs had been without Rice and starting tackle Jaylon Moore in that game. Both are listed without a game designation for the Denver visit; Rice practiced during the week after a hamstring injury.

Walker has been a major part of the offense. The Las Vegas win was sealed by Xavier Nwankpa’s interception late in the game. Against Indianapolis, Mahomes threw for 382 yards and three touchdowns, and Harrison Butker’s field goal in overtime decided the game.

On defense, Sneed is now on injured reserve and Delane is out with a shoulder injury. The team signed cornerback Melvin Smith and elevated defensive end Tyreke Smith. Kansas City’s current depth chart lists Kingsley Suamataia at left guard after Mike Caliendo started against Las Vegas. The Chiefs’ game-day active lists were not yet available in the latest update reviewed.
