Toledo is 5-2, with a 3-1 home record and a 2-1 road record. The Rockets followed the 8-23 loss to Buffalo with wins at Eastern Michigan, 34-14, and against Western Michigan, 45-38. Their scoring recovered after the Buffalo loss, although the latest victory still needed a late interception.
Mike Jacobs is in his first season at Toledo after coaching Mercer. His incoming roster included transfers from his former program. John Alan Richter is the starting quarterback. CJ Miller and Connor Walendzak have shared starting work, but Walendzak was questionable on Toledo's latest published availability report.
Against Western Michigan, Richter passed for 391 yards and three touchdowns. Miller rushed for 183 yards and scored the deciding touchdown. Adjatay Dabbs had 124 receiving yards, while Bryson Hammer added 107. Nicholas Thompson intercepted a pass, and Israel Petite supplied the interception that ended Western Michigan's final possession.
