Sacramento State enters tonight at 1-4 after beating Kent State 31-10. The Hornets are 1-2 at home and 0-2 on the road. That result followed losses to Massachusetts, Bowling Green, Ohio and Ball State. It also gave Sacramento State its first conference victory since joining the MAC.
Alonzo Carter is in his first season as head coach. Jackson Sharman leads the current quarterback projection, with Brian Salazar Jr. behind him. Isaiah Ene is projected at running back. Against Kent State, the freshman produced 107 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Onterrio Smith Jr. and Cedric Anton also hold projected starting receiving roles.
The defense forced five turnovers against Kent State. Fata Puloka caused two fumbles, and Miles Bailey recovered two. Donovan Turner added an interception return for a touchdown. Grant Meadors supplied three field goals.
Tonight is the home finale against Toledo, which arrives at 5-2. Senior Day ceremonies will honor 27 Hornets playing their last home game. New uniforms were developed with input from the Wilton Rancheria tribe. The starting lists remain projections. A current official availability report could not be located for either team.
