James Madison goes to Southern Miss at 5-2, with a 2-1 home record and a 3-1 road record. The Dukes won 49-22 against Georgia State before falling 31-34 at Appalachian State and 21-24 at home against Troy. Both losses went to overtime.

JMU reached the end zone on its opening three drives against Troy. It also committed five turnovers. Camden Coleman remains the projected starting quarterback under Billy Napier, who is in his first season leading the program.

George Pettaway remains out after suffering a lower-body injury against Appalachian State. Seth Cromwell's first JMU start brought 135 rushing yards on 23 attempts and a touchdown against Troy. The projected receiving group includes Cole Keller, Jeremiah Harrison, Corey Scott and Braeden Wisloski. Noah Grevious is questionable, and tight end KD Mosley is out.

The defense is also missing Jayon Harvey. TJ McGill started alongside Seth Gathers at safety against Troy. McGill, Nakian Jackson and Rasheed Lovelace each made seven tackles. Tonight's road game starts at 7:00 PM CT against 2-6 Southern Miss. The listed starters are projections; specialist assignments could not be confirmed.

JMU is 5-2, including 2-1 at home and 3-1 on the road. The Dukes beat Marshall 45-17 and Georgia State 49-22, but their latest results are overtime losses at Appalachian State, 31-34, and against Troy, 21-24. Against Troy, JMU reached the end zone on its opening three possessions but also committed five turnovers.

Turnovers undo promising starts

JMU led Appalachian State 21-13 and Troy 21-7 before losing both games in overtime. The Troy loss included five turnovers despite touchdowns on the Dukes' opening three possessions.

Cromwell takes over for Pettaway

Pettaway remains out with the lower-body injury suffered at Appalachian State. Cromwell's first start for JMU produced 135 rushing yards from 23 attempts, including a touchdown against Troy.

McGill steps into the secondary

TJ McGill started alongside Seth Gathers at safety against Troy while Jayon Harvey was unavailable. McGill, Nakian Jackson and Rasheed Lovelace each recorded seven tackles in that game.

Napier's first-season response

Billy Napier is in his first season leading JMU. Camden Coleman remains the projected starting quarterback as the Dukes return to the road after consecutive overtime losses.
